

Our founders Bobby and Derravia Rich married in July 2017, share one daughter, Khoi Autumn Rich. As community food producers, they play a crucial role in the growth and development of their neighborhood. Their vision for using urban farming as a means to transform communities has had a direct impact on the social, economic, and cultural vibrancy of the Greenlaw community.
Bobby Rich III, is a loving Father, Husband, and Son whose passion is displayed in his passion for Horticulture. The beauty of his gardens is cultivated through a flourishing symphony of vibrant blooms, tenderly nurtured greenery, and an unwavering commitment to nature’s beauty.
As a retired City of Memphis Firefighter & First Responder he takes pride in finding meaningful ways of servicing people. Professionally serving as a Master Gardener & Farmer, his love for reimagining fresh foods systems and cultivating relationships in the community has shown us Agriculture in a new light.
Bobby’s is a diligent student of and practitioner of regenerative farming practices. His charm and trustworthiness makes his passion for educating the community about adapting and applying regenerative farming practices in a way that honors it’s origins and keeps community as the central focus, helping then to unite and find a sense of belonging through these practices.
He is a 2019 graduate of the UT Institute of Agriculture Master Gardener class where he was trained to use his skills to promote growth and development in local neighborhoods. As an accomplished Master Gardener, he is a part of the National Black Farmers Association and works locally as a Farm Site Manager & Consultant. He has been highlighted on many platforms that range from local publications to Film documentaries that feature his successful approach to inner city farming. He has also been contracted through local Schools, Memphis Tilth, AgLaunch, and several other Agricultural organizations to educate people on the importance of learning to grow their own food. Being a wealth of knowledge, he has continued to transform many uninterested people into “green thumbs”. Bobby believes in indigenous agricultural practices; this is his approach to community building and ecological restoration. Along with his wife Derravia, they have created a local Memphis favorite, Black Seeds Urban Farms. Throughout Bobby’s tenure of being an Urban Farmer, he has hosted many classes, workshops, and trainings that teach the fundamentals of Gardening and the importance of food nutrition. Bobby’s main goal is to grow & sustain green spaces in the inner city while combating food insecurity. Bobby’s favorite quote is “Think Globally, Act Locally”. -Bobby Rich III


Meet Derravia K. Rich: A Memphis Native, Mother, Legacy Keeper, and Community Advocate.
Derravia is a force of positive change in Memphis, Tennessee. Armed with a Mass Communications degree from Tennessee State University, she’s not only a tenacious visionary but also a passionate activist for economic advancement and community unity.
As the CEO of Black Seeds Urban Farms and the Founder of Black Seeds, a nonprofit organization, Derravia is on a mission to make Memphis a better place. Her dynamic leadership has left an indelible mark on the city.
Alongside her husband Bobby, Derravia co-founded Black Seeds Urban Farms, a beloved Memphis institution. Her entrepreneurial journey focuses on food sovereignty, economic empowerment, and resource access for local communities.
But that’s not all – Derravia is a Program Specialist for the Tennessee Board of Regents, leading the charge in creating higher education curriculums that impact the entire state. With grassroots connections and a strong commitment to community development, she’s actively involved in local organizations and initiatives.
Derravia’s accomplishments speak volumes. She’s been featured in local publications, news stations, and documentaries. She’s a recipient of the 2022 “40 under 40” award, recognized for her outstanding contributions to the community by the City of Memphis, and much more.
Derravia lives by the words of Shirley Chisholm: “You don’t make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas.”
